The TOEFL iBT is the world's most widely recognised English proficiency exam for US university admissions. More than 11,000 institutions in over 150 countries accept TOEFL scores. In July 2023, ETS redesigned the TOEFL iBT, cutting the test from approximately 3 hours to under 2 hours. The result is a leaner, more focused test that still carries the same credibility with admissions offices.

TOEFL vs IELTS
TOEFL uses an integrated format where you read, listen, and then respond, which closely mirrors academic English in lectures. Students who are strong note-takers tend to score well on the TOEFL. The Speaking section is AI-scored, not face-to-face, which many students prefer. For US university study specifically, TOEFL is often the stronger choice. For Australian or UK study combined with PR pathways, IELTS or PTE are usually more practical.
