Skilled Nominated Visa: Subclass 190

The Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. State nomination adds 5 points to your score and dramatically increases your chances of receiving an invitation compared to the 189. For many applicants, the 190 is the faster and more achievable route to Australian PR.

Key Requirements

β€’  Occupation on the MLTSSL or STSOL (state-specific occupation lists may be shorter)

β€’ Positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority

β€’ State or territory nomination (adds 5 points to your total)

β€’  Minimum 65 points, including the state nomination (effective score 60 without nomination)

β€’  Competent English: IELTS 6.0 minimum

β€’  Meet the state's additional criteria (occupation demand, connection to the state, English level, etc.)

β€’  Under 45 at time of invitation

Who is This Visa For?

Skilled workers with an occupation on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or MLTSSL who are nominated by an Australian state or territory. Each state has its own occupation list and criteria; some states target regional skills gaps.

Visa Conditions

β€’  Permanent residence to live, work, and study anywhere in Australia

β€’  Obligation to live and work in the nominating state for at least 2 years (enforceable condition)

β€’  Access to Medicare and Medicare Levy Exemption during the condition period

β€’  Can apply for citizenship after 4 years as a PR (1 year permanently)

β€’  Travel freely in/out for 5 years from grant date

β€’  Processing Time: 75% within 9 months; 90% within 18 months

β€’  Visa Application Charge: AUD 4,770 (2024–25); AUD 2,385 per dependant 18+
